Two constables suspended after allegedly beating B.Tech student to death in Indrapuri Police Commissioner orders departmental probe as protests erupt

A sensational case of alleged police brutality has emerged in Bhopal. Two constables on patrol duty in the C-Sector Indrapuri area under the Piplani police station jurisdiction are facing grave accusations of beating a 22-year-old B.Tech student, Udit Gaiki, to death in the intervening night of
Thursday and Friday. Notably, Udit’s brother-in-law serves as a DSP in Balaghat.
Upon receiving the news, the deceased’s family members and students from VIT Sehore gathered in large numbers at the Piplani police station, staging a massive protest and demanding the registration of a murder case against the police personnel. Responding to the escalating tension, Police Commissioner
Harinarayanachari Mishra took immediate action, suspending the two accused constables, Santosh Bamniya and Saurabh Arya, and ordering a departmental inquiry.
According to the Piplani Police, Udit Gaiki, a resident of Ashoka Garden, was pursuing his B.Tech degree at VIT College, Sehore. Late on Thursday night, he was in Indrapuri with two friends. The family and friends alleged that the two patrolling constables inhumanely assaulted
Udit in the middle of the street. Following the severe beating, Udit’s condition deteriorated, and he was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
The deceased’s father works for the electricity company, and his mother is a teacher. The family claims that the entire incident of the assault by the police personnel has been captured on CCTV cameras installed near the scene.
They are demanding that a murder case be filed against the constables and a judicial inquiry be conducted.
Gautam Solanki, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 2, confirmed that the two constables on patrol have been suspended. He stated that a special panel has been constituted, and the post-mortem of the deceased is being conducted under videography. Statements from Udit’s friends have also been recorded. The body has been handed over to the family, and the police have registered a marg (inquest) and initiated an investigation.
