Many bodies oppose closure

Many organisations have joined hands to protect Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University (MPMSU), the identity of Jabalpur, from getting closed. Recent affiliation of nursing and paramedical colleges, which were already affiliated to the Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University (Medical Science University), with local universities has given clear indications regarding closure of the Medical University soon.

As soon as the information of the preliminary discussion broke, the doctors’ organization and the employees’ union once again started raising their voice against it. They have raised doubt over the commitment of the State PWD Minister, Rakesh Singh who earlier assured about the bright future of the Medical University, assuring that the university will not be closed. It’s worth noting that in July, there were reports that the nursing and paramedical colleges affiliated with Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University

(MPMSU) would be separated and relocated to other local universities. Dr Pawan Sthapak, Member, Executive Committee, MPMSU, expressed that following the above reports, State Cabinet Minister Rakesh Singh, after a lengthy discussion with CM Dr Mohan Yadav in Bhopal, clarified that the university would not be closed, but was considering incorporating new professional courses into MU under the new education policy, and that these would be opened here in the future. But once again the issue of fragmentation came up.

He added that if there is an agreement to affiliate the state’s medical colleges with local universities, the veracity should be verified. MU will not be allowed to close under any circumstances. We will fight at every level. According to organisations, under no circumstances, the Medical University will be allowed to move from Jabalpur or closed. This is the only government-run medical university in the state. If the government is proposing to close or weaken the facility by dismantling it, it would be a grave betrayal with Jabalpur.
