Ten patients remain admitted in hospitals across Bhopal following serious eye injuries caused by carbide gun explosions during Diwali celebrations. Of these, seven are being treated at AIIMS Bhopal, two at Gandhi Medical College (GMC), and one at Seva Sadan.

The rest have been discharged after receiving initial care. Among the victims is 11-year-old Senu, whose Diwali morning turned tragic when a carbide gun accident left him with serious injuries. His family, residents of a small town of Raisen district, struggled to find immediate help. With no money to travel to Bhopal, Senu’s father, Jitendra Verma, sought treatment at a local hospital. “It took me time to borrow money,” he said.

“Only then could I reach Bhopal on October 23, three days after the injury.” Despite holding an Ayushman Bharat card, the family was denied coverage at the hospital. Jitendra paid Rs 11,600 out of pocket and the total cost of treatment has reached nearly Rs 15,000. So far, the family has not received any compensation.
