Drunk parents’ cruelty to children: Three minors rescued after midnight complaint
Staff Reporter :
Three minor children – two girls aged 11 and 7 years and a boy aged 1 year – were rescued by the District Child Protection Cell, Nagpur, after receiving a complaint on the Child Helpline 1098. The complaint alleged that the parents were behaving cruelly with their children while under the influence of alcohol.
Acting swiftly, the Child Protection Team, along with the Kamptee Police, reached the location immediately after receiving the call at around 2 am on Monday. Upon inspection, they found the children living in extremely unsafe and neglected conditions. All three were immediately rescued and shifted to a safe shelter home.
The Child Protection Officer said, “The children were found in a very vulnerable state. This is not the first time we have received a complaint about this family. Earlier, the parents were warned and counseled. However, since they continued to harass the children, legal action has now been initiated.”
The officer added, “Citizens must remember that Childline 1098 is a free, 24-hour helpline for children in distress. The identity of the caller is always kept confidential. Quick reporting can save lives and protect the future of innocent children.” A case has been registered against the parents under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. The rescued children have been placed under the care of a Children’s Home on the orders of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Nagpur. The investigation into the case is continuing.
