A first year post-graduate (PG) student at AIIMS cut short her life, allegedly due to stress. The deceased was identified as Samruddhi Pandey (25), a daughter of IPS officer Krishnakant Pandey, presently Deputy Inspector General of Police, posted with Central Reserve Police Force in Pune.
According to police, Samruddhi was found hanging from the ceiling at her rented flat under the Sonegaon Police Station area on Tuesday evening by her classmate.
A police team attended the spot, Manjiri Apartment, opp. AIIMS in MIHAN area, on being informed by the Control Room. Samruddhi was a first-year student pursuing her PG in Dermatology.
Her roommate returned to the flat around 7 pm on November 12. Despite repeated knocking Samruddhi did not respond so she went to the back of the flat and gained entry into the flat. To her shock she noticed Samruddhi’s body dangling from the ceiling fan in the room. The roommate shouted for help that brought neighbours to the spot.
The cops, on reaching the flat, brought down Samruddhi’s body. Based on preliminary investigation, police has surmised that Samruddhi was under severe stress.
merit student, Samruddhi could not handle the pressure of medical studies which proved too much for her. Officers conducted panchanama and sent the body for post-mortem.
Police are investigating the case and questioning her friends to find the exact reason behind the shocking step by Samruddhi.
In recent past, this is the second such incident that rocked AIIMS. Previously, a second year students of MBBS had committed suicide. The student was putting up in Boys’ Hostel in AIIMS campus. Till date, police has not been able to ascertain exact reason behind that suicide case since no suicide note was found. In Samruddhi’s case also, she did not pen any note, leaving police to grope in the dark.
