Chhattisgarh is gearing up to host the annual DGP Conference for the first time as Raipur prepares for a three-day security conclave that will bring together the country’s top policing leadership for intensive internal security deliberations from November 28 to 30. The event is set to draw unprecedented national attention with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah expected to remain present throughout the conference, participating directly in key sessions and strategic reviews. State Home Minister Vijay Sharma, addressing the media in Raipur, said the conference elevates Chhattisgarh’s position within India’s internal security framework. He noted that the gathering will serve as a platform for States to present policing innovations, technology-driven investigative systems and new methods for streamlining legal and procedural workflows.

Sharma emphasised that the event is not tied to the proposed commissionerate structure in Raipur nor connected to any specific anti-Naxal operation, but is instead a comprehensive national-level forum designed to improve security coordination across jurisdictions. Responding to political remarks suggesting Maoist commander Hidma should have been persuaded to surrender rather than being neutralised, Sharma pointed out that the extremist was connected to some of the most violent attacks in Bastar.

He recalled major incidents that resulted in the killing of security personnel and widespread devastation of villages, saying such comments overlook the suffering of families who lost their loved ones to extremist violence. Sharma added that those making speculative statements must acknowledge the historical record and the long chain of atrocities that defined Hidma’s operations. On recent statements by activist Soni Sori announcing her intention to approach the court over the encounter, Sharma said the judiciary is open to all but urged that equal attention be given to the many teachers, villagers and tribal citizens who were victims of extremist attacks across Bastar.

Sharma also confirmed that the State Government is preparing legislation relating to religious conversions for introduction in the upcoming Assembly session. On queries regarding SIR, he explained that it pertains to the removal of non-qualified names from electoral rolls and added that objections typically emerge from those who rely on irregular entries for political advantage.

He further commented on Prime Minister Modi’s recent praise for Chhattisgarh at a programme in Gujarat, noting that such recognition reflects the State’s improving administrative performance and the constructive momentum in governance. He said visits by national dignitaries and senior officials have added significant impetus to ongoing reforms. In his parting shot, Home Minister Sharma said the objective is clear: strengthening India’s internal security apparatus, refining policing standards and ensuring that Chhattisgarh plays its full role in shaping a safer national environment, with the upcoming DGP Conference serving as an important milestone in that direction.
