Two MBBS students from the 2021 batch of the Government Medical College, Dimrapal, lost their lives in a road accident on the Jagdalpur highway on Saturday afternoon. The victims, identified as Ankit Dani of Bhilai, Sector 7 and Aali Shrivastava of Raipur, were returning towards Dimrapal on a motorcycle when a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction struck them near a roadside eatery known locally as In Dhaba.
 
According to eyewitnesses, the impact of the collision was severe and threw both riders off the motorcycle. Ankit died on the spot due to multiple injuries, while Aali sustained severe trauma and was rushed to Mekaz Hospital where he died during treatment.
 
Eyewitnesses also stated that the truck continued moving forward after the crash and dragged the motorcycle for almost 100 metres before coming to a halt. Locals immediately informed police and helped shift both injured students to the hospital. Upon receiving information, Superintendent Dr Anurup Sahu, senior doctors and a large number of medical students reached the hospital and assisted in the emergency response.
 
The sudden deaths of two students created an atmosphere of shock among classmates and faculty members. Police teams reached the accident site, seized the truck and detained the driver. Officials confirmed that the driver has been arrested and that further investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events, vehicle speed and possible negligence.
 
The motorcycle and the truck have been sent for mechanical examination, and statements of eyewitnesses are being recorded. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and police have informed the families of both students. The case has been registered and is being investigated by the Jagdalpur police.
