Thousands of devotees are expected to bow before Guru Granth Sahib Ji and pay tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, who is remembered for his supreme sacrifice to protect religious freedom. Gurdwara Granthi Bhai Kamaljeet Singh will share hymns and narrate the story of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji’s martyrdom.
According to tradition, Kashmiri Pandits had sought help from Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji when Mughal emperor Aurangzeb attempted to forcefully convert them. Guru Sahib asked them to tell the emperor
that if he could convert the Guru first, they would follow.
Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji was later arrested and taken to Delhi, where he was executed by beheading at Chandni Chowk on the orders of Aurangzeb.
The site is now known as Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib, where thousands of devotees visit daily to offer prayers. Guru Sahib chose martyrdom but did not allow injustice or religious persecution to prevail. Gurdwara Committee President Kuldeep Singh Gulati, Secretary Jasbir Singh Bhimra, Rachhpal Singh and Gurucharan Singh Arora have appealed to devotees to join in large numbers and pay homage to the great martyr.
