The MIDC Industries Association (MIA), Hingna, on Thursday drew attention to the deteriorating condition of essential infrastructure within one of Maharashtra’s oldest industrial estates and called on policymakers to intervene. Internal roads, street lighting and support utilities have steadily worsened, hurting operational efficiency, worker safety and investor confidence.
The internal road network is riddled with deep potholes and uneven surfaces, leading to frequent vehicle breakdowns, higher maintenance costs and delays in the movement of raw materials and finished goods. Monsoon water logging exacerbates the risk of accidents for pedestrians and two-wheelers. Despite regular service-charge payments by industries, visible improvement remains absent.
Inadequate and often non-functional street lighting across several sectors further compromises security, increasing the likelihood of theft and endangering night-shift workers.
The association also questioned the impact of the annual Winter Session of the Maharashtra State Assembly in Nagpur, noting that while the session provides a platform for raising issues, sustained infrastructure upgrades have not materialised. P Mohan, President of MIA, urged a publicly funded approach to restore the estate’s infrastructure without overburdening industry.
MIA further criticised local civic bodies for dumping garbage within the estate, creating health hazards, and called for immediate, coordinated action to revive Hingna MIDC and unlock its potential as a key logistics and manufacturing hub.
