THEannual function of five
primary and middle schools
run by the Jabalpur Municipal
Corporation (JMC) was held
with great enthusiasm at
Manas Bhavan on Monday.
A large number of students
presented colourful cultural
performances and impressed
the audience.
Speaking as chief guest,
Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh said
children of Municipal
Corporation’s schools are no
less than those of private
schools. He said most students
come from modest back
grounds but have strong talent
and only need proper opportunities.
The Mayor said facilities are being provided through
the Mayor Gurukul for the all
round development of students
and the impact is visible in
improved academic results.
Cultural events commenced with a Saraswati
Vandana, followed by Kathak,
Bundeli folk dance, Narmada
Vandana, a dance drama on
Sita Swayamvar, Rajasthani
Kalbeliya and Braj Rasleela.
Performances by students
from various JMC schools
received warm applause and
held the audience’s attention.
Public representatives present
on the occasion encouraged the
students and praised the efforts
being made to strengthen edu
cation at civic body schools. At
the end, the Mayor felicitated
teachers for their achievements.
Participating students were
awarded certificates, mementoes and cash prizes. Earlier,
event started with the lighting
of lamp. Principal Dr Shailendra
Pandey conducted the proceedings of the programme
while Additional Commissioner
Manoj Shrivastava extended a
vote of thanks. MLA Ashok
Rohani, MLA Abhilash Pandey,
JMC Chairperson Rikunj Vij,
Mayor-in-Council members,
Corporators and officials were
present on the occasion.
