Skill Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha initiates job-oriented project

Students of Maharashtra’s 45 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) are getting skill-based training through a course jointly designed by Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) and ITIs. Maharashtra Minister for Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, has initiated the project. The first batch of Principals of ITIs in Maharashtra has completed training at Bengaluru where the unit of TKM is situated. Now, a team of Joint Director and Directors will be sent for the training. This project will work ensuring jobs to the students completing the course successfully. This project will run for the students pursuing courses like automobile or motor mechanic. This initiative is closely aligned with TKM’s philosophy of strengthening local manufacturing eco-system, generating employment opportunities, and advancing green mobility. Furthermore, it reinforces TKM’s broader vision of nurturing a future-ready talent pool to meet the evolving needs of the automotive industry.

TKM will give machinery worth Rs 30 lakh to every ITI and also provide expertise to set up a laboratory where the students will work. The training has already started and is being provided by keeping latest technology in mind. For example, now Electric Vehicles have come so the students will be made well acquainted with it. The programme will be implemented in phases: Under Phase 1 (2025–26), focus will be on 16 ITIs in the Marathwada and Nagpur divisions. In Phase 2 (2026–28), it will be expanded into Amravati and Nashik divisions and in Phase 3 (2029–30), the institutes in Mumbai and Pune divisions will be covered.

By 2030, the initiative aims to support the development of 45 ITIs across 36 districts. Mangal Prabhat Lodha initiated Toyota’s global expertise into ITIs, to empower the youth of Maharashtra with industry-relevant skills that enhance their technical proficiency, build essential workplace skills and elevate their livelihoods. This initiative will contribute immensely in shaping their careers and Maharashtra’s growth story. Under the collaboration, Toyota Kirloskar Motor will set up state-of-the-art laboratories for the Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) Technician trade in selected ITIs. These advanced labs will include modern tools, diagnostic systems, and training equipment aligned with global automotive industry standards. Toyota will also provide specialised training to ITI instructors, ensuring that teaching practices meet international benchmarks.

The initiative is expected to benefit nearly 8,000 students, enhancing their employability in the automotive and allied sectors. Toyota’s installation work for the new labs will begin within two months. Thirteen laboratories will be operational by March 2026 as part of the first rollout. The remaining labs will be completed in phased implementations over the next five years, eventually covering all 45 ITIs under the project. The MoU was signed between Vikram Gulati, Country Head and Executive Vice-President, Corporate Affairs and Governance, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, and Madhavi Sardeshmukh, Director of the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training in the presence of Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha.
