Korba West champion, Durg runners-upin Inter-zonal of Power Cos Lawn Tennis meet

THE three-day Inter-zonal Lawn Tennis Tournament of Power Companies, organised under the aegis of the Central Sports and Cultural Council and hosted by Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited, Durg Region, concluded with Korba West Region lifting the championship title, while the host Durg Region finished as runners-up. In the singles category, Harshal Vishwakarma of Korba West Region won the title, with his teammate Sunil Singh securing the runners-up position. Korba West Region also dominated the doubles category, where the pair of Harshal Vishwakarma and Sunil Singh emerged winners, while Atul Rai and Vikalp Tiwari finished as runners-up. The tournament was held from December 15 to 17, 2025, at the Lawn Tennis Complex, Civic Centre, Bhilai and concluded with the specially organised closing ceremony.
The Managing Director of the Distribution Company, Bhimsingh Kanwar, graced the occasion as the chief guest. He congratulated the win ning and runner-up teams as well as all participating teams for their spirited performance. Presiding over the programme, Chief Engineer, Durg Region, Sanjay Khandelwal said that the players had enthralled spectators with their excellent skills over the past three days. He described the final match as highly thrilling and appreciated the commend able performance of power sec tor employees on the sports field. Teams from five zones of the Power Companies--host Durg Region, Korba West, Raipur Central, Raipur Region and Bilaspur Region--participated in the tournament, with 25 players competing.
During the programme, an important announcement was made by Sanjay Khandelwal, declaring the names of out standing players selected for the upcoming ‘All India Power Companies Sports Tournament’. The selected players include Harshal Vishwakarma, Sunil Singh, Vikalp Tiwari and Atul Rai from Korba West Region, and Rajneesh Oberoi, P L Maheshwari, Arun Sahu and Manish Chandravanshi from Durg Region. A large number of officers, employees and sports enthusiasts from the Durg Region were present at the closing cer emony. The programme was con ducted by Publication Officer Maya Chandrakar.
