A VIOLENTconfrontation over
an old rivalry has surfaced in the
Lalghati area under the Kohefiza
Police Station jurisdiction. A bakery owner, who was playing at a
local snooker club, was subject
ed to a life-threatening assault
by a youth wielding a metal
‘punch’. Following the viral
spread of the CCTV footage on
social media, police have successfully apprehended the primary suspect.
The incident occurred on
Wednesday night. According to
police sources, the victim, who
operates a bakery in the Kotwali
area, was playing at ‘David
Snooker Club’ in Lalghati. During
the game, the accused arrived at
the spot and launched a sudden,
pre-planned attack rooted in a
past grudge.
Investigations revealed that
approximately 10 days ago, a
heated argument had broken out
between the victim and the suspect’s elder brother over game
play and expenses. At that time,
the brother had allegedly threatened the victim with “dire con
sequences.” Driven by that lingering dispute, the accused
seized the opportunity on
Wednesday to strike.
The assailant used a heavy iron
punch to deliver over seven rap
id blows to the victim’s head and
face. The severity of the impact
was such that the bakery owner
collapsed on the spot, losing consciousness.
After the assault, the
suspect reportedly intimidated
onlookers, shouting, “If you ever
clash with my brother again, I
will kill you,” before fleeing the
scene.Taking immediate cognizance
of the incident, Kohefiza
Station House Officer K G
Shukla stated that the accused
was identified via CCTV
footage and has been taken
into custody. Preliminary
investigation confirms that the
attack was entirely motivated by revenge for a previous alter
cation,” SHO Shukla said. The
police are currently investi
gating the roles of other potential suspects who may have
assisted in planning the
assault. The victim remains
hospitalised and is undergoing treatment for injuries.
