Staff Reporter:
JABALPUR remained in the grip
of severe cold as freezing north
ern winds, triggered by active
western disturbances over the
Himalayas, intensified chill and
dense fog across the city. Early
morning fog was so thick on
Monday that visibility at city out
skirts dropped to nearly zero. It
improved only marginally to
about 50 metres by 9 am. Sunlight
appeared fully only after 11 am,
adding to the prolonged cold
conditions.
Local weather department
informed that night tempera
tures have been consistently reel
ing below 10 degrees Celsius. The
minimum temperature on
Monday was recorded at around
9 degrees, but the chill was felt
closer to 5 to 6 degrees due to
cold winds and fog.
The maxi
mum temperature stood at 22.4
degrees Celsius, which was below
3 degree to normal.
Spokesman of weather depart
ment said there is little chance
of relief over the next two days,
with fog likely to persist during
early morning hours. A western
disturbance positioned at low
er levels of the atmosphere is
affecting Jabalpur and nearby
districts, leading to cloudy con
ditions, reduced sunshine and
fluctuations in day and night
temperatures.
The dense fog and cold wave
have disrupted daily routines
and transport services, while
health experts have advised
children, the elderly and those
with illnesses to avoid pro
longed exposure to cold.
Agricultural experts have
advised farmers to irrigate crops
and use smoke along field
boundaries to protect vegeta
bles and standing crops from
fog-related damage.
