City police continues its crackdown on sellers of nylon manja with Kalamna Police raiding a house in Memon Colony that yielded 40 reels valued at Rs 80,000. Acting on a tip-off, a team checked a housing unit in Memon Colony and during the search, the cops found some stuff in a gunny bag. On opening the same, the cops noticed nylon manja and they detained Haris Fakira (19), a resident of Pochi Colony.
The reels had labels of mono kite fighter affixed on it and maximum seizure in past also had same labels. He was booked under sections 125 and 223 of BNS, R/w secs. 5, 15 of Environment Protection Rules 1986. The police are interrogating Fakira to trace the source of nylon manja. Despite daily seizure, the cops are still not able to plug the supply gap as large quantities have already reached the city from Northern India, said the sources. The raid was effected by team comprising Assistant Police Inspector (API) Shashikant Musale, Head Constable Vishal Bhaisare, constables Nitin and Lalit.
