INDIAN Railways has announced a rationalisation of its passenger fare
structure, which will come into effect from December 26. The revision has been carried out to make fares more balanced while maintaining operational efficiency
according to officials. According to the updated structure, there will be no
increase in fares for suburban train services, season tickets, and second-class ordinary non-AC travel up to 215 kilometers, ensuring minimal impact on daily and
short-distance travelers.
For distances beyond 215 km, fares will be increased in
a phased manner. Travel between 216 km and 750 km will see an increase of
Rs 5, 751 km to 1250 km by Rs 10, 1251 km to 1750 km by Rs 15, and 1751 km to 2250
km by Rs 20.
Sleeper and first-class ordinary non-suburban fares will rise uniformly at a
rate of 1 paise per km, while AC and non-AC Mail and Express trains will see an
increase of up to 2 paise per km. The revision covers various classes, including
Sleeper Class, First Class, AC Chair Car, AC 3-Tier, AC 2-Tier, and AC First Class.
Important trains such as Tejas Express, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Humsafar,
and other major services will follow the new fare structure. Reservation charges,
superfast surcharges, other auxiliary charges, and GST applicability remain unchanged.
The revised fares will apply only to tickets booked on or after December 26, 2025,
and earlier bookings will not be affected. Station display boards will be updated to
reflect the new fares.
