Bengaluru man commits suicide in city days after wife’s death; mother attempts suicide

Incident reported at Hotel Royal Villa in Sonegaon Days after his wife died by suicide, a 36-year-old man from Bengaluru ended his life by hanging at Hotel Royal Villa on Wardha Road on Saturday. Shockingly, his mother, shattered by the loss of her son, also attempted suicide and was injured in the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Suraj Shivanna, a resident of BEL Layout, Vidyaranyapura in Bengaluru, Karnataka. His mother, Jayanti Shivanna (60), is currently undergoing treatment.
According to police, Suraj had married Ganvi alias Rashi, about one-and-a-half months ago. Soon after the marriage, frequent arguments reportedly began between the couple.
On December 22, following one such dispute, Rashi allegedly died by suicide. Her parents later filed a case at the Vidyaranyapura Police Station against Suraj and abetting Rashi to commit
suicide.

said that after the case was registered, Suraj and his family were allegedly subjected to continuous threats from his wife’s relatives. Fearing for their safety, Suraj, his younger brother Sanjay (35), and their mother left Bengaluru.
They first moved to Hyderabad and later checked into Hotel Royal Villa in Nagpur on December 26.
After dinner, the family retired to their rooms. Around 12.15 am, Jayanti alerted Sanjay that Suraj had hanged himself from a ceiling fan. In a state of shock, she also attempted to take her own life but was rescued in time by Sanjay, though she sustained injuries.
Hotel staff was immediately informed, following which Sonegaon Police rushed to the spot. Suraj’s body was sent to AIIMS for post-mortem, while his mother was admitted to the same hospital for treatment.
Based on Sanjay Shivanna’s statement, police have registered a case of accidental death and are continuing further investigation.
