As the year draws to a close, cold conditions have intensified in the city and surrounding districts. In several areas, minimum temperature has dropped to around 7 degrees Celsius. The Weather Department has issued a cold wave alert for Jabalpur for next two days. According to the forecast, temperatures are likely to dip further during the night and early morning hours. Spokesman of the department said jet stream winds are the main reason behind the severe cold spell. Icy winds blowing in from northern India have added to the chill. Cold winds were felt throughout the day, forcing people to sit in the sun for warmth.

The changing weather has had a greater impact on children and the elderly. Along with the cold wave, the Weather Department has also issued a dense fog alert for several districts. On Saturday, Jabalpur recorded a minimum temperature of 7.4 degrees Celsius. The effect of biting cold and fog continues across Sanskardhani and the entire state of Madhya Pradesh. In most cities, minimum temperatures are hovering below 9 degrees Celsius. The cold has intensified further in the last week of the year.

Icy winds from northern India and active weather systems in the atmosphere have increased the chill, creating cold wave-like conditions in many areas. Weather department informed that, sub-tropical jet stream winds are currently blowing over northeastern India at a speed of around 232 kilometres per hour, adding to the cold in the region. In addition, a western disturbance is active in the form of a trough, affecting the Himalayan region. The department has predicted that another western disturbance may become active around December 30. This could lead to a slight rise in minimum temperatures due to a change in wind direction. However, for now, there are no immediate signs of relief from the severe cold across the State.
