Adhartal police have apprehended two employees of Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University (JNAU) following allegations of sexual assault against a 22-year-old job seeker.
 
The suspects have been identified as Durga Shankar Singraha, a 58-year-old Upper Division Clerk and Mukesh Sen, a peon. According to police, the victim had approached the university looking for contractual employment after finding contact details on the institution’s website. The Upper Division Clerk reportedly gained her trust by claiming he could facilitate her recruitment through the Vice-Chancellor’s office.
 
On the day of the incident, the victim was directed to the university campus to submit her credentials. However, instead of an office meeting, she was escorted to a staff quarter located in the Krishi Nagar Colony. The victim alleged that she was confined within the residence and subsequently assaulted by both men.
 
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Jitendra Singh informed that based on the victim’s formal complaint the police have taken both the accused into custody. He added that a case has been registered under stringent sections of the law, and we are ensuring that the victim receives all necessary legal and psychological support.” The incident has prompted significant concerns regarding the safety of women within academic institutions and the security of official recruitment channels. The university administration has yet to release a formal statement regarding the internal disciplinary actions against the accused employees.
