PRESIDENT of India Droupadi Murmu
on Tuesday graced and addressed the
Antarrajyiy Jansanskritik Samagam
Samaroh-Kartik Jatra at Gumla in
Jharkhand, calling her visit to the birthplace and workplace of Bhagwan Birsa
Munda a deeply spiritual experience.
Addressing a large gathering, the
President said that Jharkhand holds a
sacred place in the national consciousness as the land of Bhagwan Birsa Munda,
whom she described as an enduring symbol of social justice and tribal pride.
She
said that visiting the region felt like a pilgrimage to her, given Birsa Munda’s contribution to awakening tribal identity and
resistance against exploitation.
Murmu recalled the life and work of
Pankhraj Saheb Kartik Oraon, stating that
he carried forward the ideals of Bhagwan
Birsa Munda by strengthening tribal consciousness and social unity.
She said Kartik Oraon dedicated his life
to the upliftment of the tribal community and the nation, working relentlessly for
the spread of education and social cohesion.
The President urged people to draw
inspiration from his ideals and work
collectively for the overall development of society and the country.
Highlighting the rich legacy of the region, the President noted
that Jharkhand and adjoining areas have produced a long line of
tribal heroes whose contributions deserve wider recognition. At the
same time, she stressed that it is the responsibility of individuals
and institutions connected with tribal heritage to ensure that the
stories of these heroes reach the youth and future generations.
Emphasising the need to balance tradition with progress, Murmu
said it is crucial to connect young people with tribal customs and
culture while enabling them to advance on the path of modern
development. She expressed confidence that tribal communities
would continue to progress while preserving their heritage and identity. The President also praised products made by women of the
Forest Management Committee Shabdamunda self-help group of
Kotanpani village under Jashpur Forest Division, describing them
as inspiring symbols of tribal creativity, self-reliance and cultural
preservation.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said that national recognition of the skills and self-reliance of tribal women of Jashpur, particularly those associated with ‘Jashcraft’, was a matter of pride for
the entire State. Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka and Jharkhand
Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar were also present. A large number of people attended programme.
