Bhuvaneshwari wins gold;Pratik bags silver, women’s relay team clinches bronze

BHUVANESHWARI Masram won a gold medal in the women’s 800 metres race at the State Inter-University Sports Festival in Nanded and brought the second gold medal to Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University. On Saturday, Swati Uike had won first gold medal in long jump. On last day of the athletics competition, Nagpur University athletes won four medals. Bhuvaneshwari, a student of SB City College, accelerated in the last 80 metres and won the gold medal for the first time. She clocked 2 minutes 22.49 seconds. Pallavi Dongarwar of Nagpur University won the silver medal in 2 minutes 22.64 seconds. Pallavi had defeated Bhuvaneshwari in the inter-collegiate competition held last month.

This was Pallavi’s second individual medal in the competition. She had won the bronze medal in the 400 metres race. In the men’s 800 metres race, Pratik Kanhere of Nagpur won a silver medal in 1 minute 58.47 seconds. Nagpur University had to settle for a bronze medal in the women’s 4x400m relay race, which took place an hour and a half after the 800m race. The Nagpur University team, comprising Bhuvaneshwari, Pallavi Dongarwar, Chaitali Borekar and Bhavyashri Mahalle, clocked a time of 4 minutes 11.08 seconds. With this, Bhavyashri Mahalle won her third medal of the competition. She had won a bronze in the 1500m and a silver in the 5000m race.
