MAHARASHTRA Minister of Higher
and Technical Education
Chandrakant Patil has decided that
from next year, colleges in State will
get the student scholarship at the
beginning of the academic year. The
Maharashtra Government’s share in
scholarship is 40%, while Centre bears
the 60% amount. As per the earlier
decision, scholarship amount was to
be deposited directly in the bank
accounts of the students. State Government has
started depositing their share of scholarship amount
to the colleges’ bank accounts but it gets delayed
due to the flaws in the processing.
Patil said, “Students submit their documents
during admissions separately.
They first take admissions through State CET Cell and later on, apply
for the scholarship. It delays the processing of
scholarship amount. We have decided to change the system wherein students will submit their documents
of admission and for scholarship at
a time. This will reduce the time and
colleges will get the scholarship
amount in the beginning of the academic year.” This decision will come
into effect in 2026.
The colleges in Maharashtra face
the issue of receipt of students scholarship from the Government. Every
year, colleges have to run from pillar to post to get the scholarship amount. As per
2018 Government Resolution, the colleges should
get the 90% amount in the beginning of the academic year, which was not the case. The Central
Government doesn’t deposit its share of 60% scholarship amount in the bank accounts of the colleges. Now State Government is contemplating to pursue the matter with the
Central ministry.
