Flyovers of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) are back in the news as yet another instance of a falling object from high occurred on Tuesday in the city. This time the incident was reported from Katol Road, where the Sadar flyover bifurcates into two paths, one heading towards Koradi and the other heading to Katol Road.
A motorist, Neeraj Vyas, was travelling in his four-wheeler, heading to a nearby bank on Katol Road.
At the junction below the bridge, at Chhaoni T-point, Vyas was shaken after a portion of a thick wooden shaft crashed and landed on the vehicle's bonnet. The object Vyas said fell onto his vehicle around 12.30 pm. The impact left a dent on the vehicle, but no one was hurt in the incident.
Vyas said he carefully stepped out of the vehicle to inspect what had happened. On inspection, he noticed that the wooden piece got dislodged from the junction of two units of the flyover at Chhaoni T-point. The wooden piece was around 2 feet long, and had it fallen on someone's head, one could just shudder at the consequence that person would have suffered.
It's strange that the city is witnessing repeated incidents of flyovers built by NHAI. A month back, a motorist on Bhandara Road had a close shave after a piece of concrete fell down from the newly inaugurated Wardhaman Nagar arm of the Pardi Project. Before that, a span of the Pardi Project that opened onto Kalamna Road had crashed, putting a question mark on the safety and construction standards of NHAI. In either of the incidents, no one was injured, but they were enough to scare the people in the second capital of the State.
