Panic spread after suspicious activity was reported at the residence of Jagadguru Swami Raghav Devacharya. The saint has written a letter to the police and district administration, urging them to take the incident seriously. He warned that if the situation is not brought under control, it could escalate like the unrest seen in West Bengal.
Swami Raghav Devacharya said that he had already made the authorities aware about a potential threat 24 hours before the incident, but no concrete action was taken. According to him, on Saturday five to six people arrived in an auto-rickshaw. One of them, dressed as a transgender person, approached the main gate of the ashram and started shouting ‘Baba, come outside’ while trying to force the door open. On noticing a police officer nearby, the person quickly made an excuse and left.

The saint informed that if they had come for religious purposes, all would have entered properly. Their behaviour seemed suspicious. He accused the administration of negligence, saying that despite his serious warning only one Personal Security  Officer (PSO) has been assigned to him, who is present for just 5 to 6 hours a day. It may be mentioned that earlier on April 8, Abdul Majid, a resident of Hanumantal had made an objectionable comment about ‘Budhi Mata’ (a form of Goddess Durga) on social media, sparking outrage among saints and devotees. Under the leadership of the saints, a strong protest was held outside the police station. Swami Raghav Devacharya termed the comment an insult to Hinduism and demanded strict action.
Following the same, a number of people from a community posted abusive comments about Raghav Devacharya on Instagram, even threatening to “separate his head from his body”. Later, on April 11, police arrested Abdul Majid and charged him under the National Security Act (NSA). So far, five people have been arrested for making offensive comments against the Swami.
