To provide relief from water-logging during the rainy season, the Health Department of the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) is carrying out extensive cleaning of drains and conservancies. Senior officials informed that as per a special action plan, regular cleaning is being conducted on a war footing using both manpower and machinery. Large drains are being cleaned rapidly with the help of machines to ensure smooth drainage of rainwater. Deputy Commissioner Sambhav Ayachi, Health Officer Sandeep Jaiswal and Assistant Health Officer Arjun Yadav stated that the cleaning of major drains and nullahs has already been started ahead of the monsoon.

They informed that Municipal Commissioner Preeti Yadav had earlier instructed the headquarters’ health department and vehicle branch to prepare a detailed cleaning plan well in advance. Following the directives, the civic body, along with private operators deployed 5 units of 200 Hitachi machines, 5 units of 100 Hitachi machines, 2 units of 70 Hitachi machines and 24 mini Hitachi and JCB machines for the cleaning drive. Major drains like Omti Nala, Moti Nala, Urdana Nala and Khandari Nala, along with smaller and medium-sized drains across the city will be cleaned before the onset of heavy rains. Officials said the JMC will ensure citizens do not face waterlogging-related problems during monsoon.
