As per the instructions of the State Government, the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation has organised National Lok Adalat at headquarters and all 16 divisional offices, on Saturday. The civic body provided special rebate on overdue taxes. Total 1,864 taxpayers cleared their pending dues and deposited over Rs 1.24 crore to the JMC’s treasury. Senior officials of the JMC’s Revenue department informed that in property tax alone, 1,290 taxpayers paid Rs 86.05 lakh, while 324 paid Rs 10.43 lakh as water tax and 250 people contributed Rs 3.04 lakh in door-to-door collection dues. An additional Rs 71,000 came from other sources. During the National Lok Adalat, Mayor-in-Council members along with senior officials visited various divisional offices.
 
They interacted with taxpayers and instructed officials to ensure smooth and hassle-free services. Municipal Commissioner Preeti Yadav informed that during the Lok Adalat, 100 per cent waiver was offered on surcharge for pending property tax up to Rs 50,000, 50 percent waiver for dues between Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh and 25 per cent rebate for dues above Rs 1 lakh. Like in water tax cent-per-cent rebate was given on surcharge for dues up to Rs 10,000, 75 percent waiver for dues between Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 and 50 percent rebate for dues above Rs 50,000. Taxpayers were allowed to pay the dues in two instalments, with at least 50 percent payment on the day of the Lok Adalat and the rest to be paid within a month.
