IN a sensational twist to Shalarth ID scam, Cyber Police, on Thursday, arrested Chintaman Wanjari, Divisional President, Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Education.
According to police, Wanjari was involved in the scam while serving as Education Officer, Primary, in School Education Department, when the alleged appointment of unqualified persons in various schools had allegedly taken place.
The case is making sensation across the State and even the Opposition is targeting the State Government for sitting pretty even as the babudom indulged in rampant corruption.
The Cyber Police are investigating the FIR lodged by Ravindra Patil, Junior Administrative Officer, office of Deputy Director (Education).
This is the most high profile arrest in the ongoing investigation that has shaken the education circles to the hilt, as role
of erstwhile officers who once ruled the roost starts unfolding in the scam.
On Wednesday, Cyber Police had picked-up Anil Pardhi, clerk in the office of Deputy Director (Education), and he was touted as the brain behind Shalarth
ID scam. The fresh arrest comes after the city police bosses got clearance from the top officials, because netting Wanjari required the same given his status.
The investigation has seen setting up of the nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) on the orders of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. As cops reach the bottom names of big wigs are coming to fore.
