The police custody of Laxman Mangham and former Deputy Director of Education (DDE) Vaishali Jamdar, both key accused in the bogus Shalarth ID scam (Teachers’ recruitment scam) has been extended by one more day.
The duo was produced before a court on Monday after their initial Special Investigation Team (SIT) custody ended. Following arguments from both prosecution and defense, the court granted an extension of police custody by a day to facilitate further interrogation.
Mangham was arrested in Nagpur while allegedly attempting to flee. He was arrested from Wadi area. Jamdar, on the other hand, was nabbed in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar under a production warrant.
In a parallel operation, the SIT also conducted raids at two residences of another accused, Deputy Director of Education Chintaman Gulabrao Vanjari (57), located in Bhausaheb Surve Nagar, Yavatmal. During the raids, officials seized several documents believed to be linked to the scam. Vanjari, like the others, is currently under intensive interrogation.
Sources say the SIT is now analysing the confiscated documents for further leads and possible links to other officials or institutions.
