Sunita Jamgade (43), the Nagpur woman who crossed into Pakistan earlier this month through the Line of Control (LoC) near Hunderman village in Kargil, is expected to arrive in Nagpur late Wednesday night, police sources confirmed.
According to officials, a four-member team from Nagpur Police has taken custody of Jamgade from Amritsar Police. The team, along with Sunita, boarded a train from Amritsar to Delhi late Tuesday night. From Delhi, they are scheduled to travel to Nagpur by train and are expected to reach the city by Wednesday night.
Sunita, a resident of Sant Kabir Nagar in the Kapil Nagar police station area, was reported missing on May 14. She had allegedly crossed the LoC in Kargil, leaving behind her 12-year-old son, who has since been placed in the care of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
Jamgade was apprehended by Pakistani forces after crossing the border and was in their custody until Saturday.
She was officially handed over to Indian authorities by the Pakistan Rangers at the Wagah border on Saturday. The Border Security Force (BSF) subsequently transferred her to Amritsar Police custody, from where Nagpur Police took charge.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Niketan Kadam confirmed that Jamgade would be questioned upon her arrival in Nagpur to determine the motive behind her border crossing and to verify any possible involvement in unlawful activities, including espionage.
Sources have revealed that prior to her disappearance, Sunita had been in contact with two Pakistani nationals, identified as Zulfekar and a man known as Pastor.
Investigators are examining these connections closely.
A zero FIR was initially registered by Amritsar Police and has since been transferred to the Kapil Nagar Police Station, as Jamgade’s permanent address is in Nagpur.
Meanwhile, arrangements are being made to bring her minor son back to Nagpur, where he will be reunited with his family following counseling and procedural clearance. Further developments are expected as the investigation progresses.
