An important Mayor-in-Council (M-i-C) meeting was held under the leadership of Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh to strengthen the city’s sanitation infrastructure and expedite civic development. One of the major decisions taken in the meeting was to boost the door-to-door waste collection fleet by adding 50 new CNG tipper vehicles. The Mayor instructed officials to initiate the procurement process for these vehicles without delay. In a move aimed at transforming the city’s sanitation, the council approved the construction of three new garbage transfer stations at Adhartal, Bilhari and Lema Garden at an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore. Each of these sites will also include a fire sub-station and a vehicle yard for added public utility.

The Mayor issued strict instructions to install rainwater harvesting systems in all municipal buildings within a week. Likewise, property owners with buildings exceeding 5,000 sq. ft. will be served formal notices encouraging them to install water harvesting systems. In a major relief for citizens, the council sanctioned Rs 2.5 lakh each under the PM Awas Yojana to 358 land lease holders, with a target to benefit 1,200 more beneficiaries within the next two months. The council gave nod to a Rs 6 crore tender for the beautification of the Ganga Sagar Lake. Proposals for construction of a sanitary landfill and implementation of a legacy waste remedy project were also passed, including the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR). Those attended the meeting included Mayor-in-Council members, Municipal Commissioner Preeti Yadav, Additional Commissioner Prashant Gotia, all departmental heads and Council Secretary K C Pandey.
