Lakhotiya Bhutada High School CBSE, Kondhali under fire for violating child rights

A case has been registered against the Principal, Vice-principal and a teacher of Lakhotiya Bhutada High School CBSE at Kondhali in Katol tehsil of Nagpur district. They are accused of mentally harassing a student by forcing him to leave school over unpaid fees. The accused have been identified as School Principal Ashutosh Kedar Pawar, Vice-Principal Yogesh Chaudhary and Class Teacher Amol Wadyalkar.

The case was filed late at Kondhali Police Station under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and Section 17 of the Right to Education Act 2009. These sections deal with cruelty to children and denial of compulsory education, said API Rajkumar Tripathi, in-charge of Kondhali Police Station. According to police, students were made to stand on benches in front of classmates for unpaid fees. They were denied hall tickets for exams and not issued identity cards, even though no official notice or request for fees was sent to the parents.

One such student, studying in Class 5, was repeatedly humiliated despite being eligible under the Right to Education (RTE) scheme. Parent Abdul Khaliq Sheikh contacted the Child Helpline 1098 and filed a complaint. On June 4, a team including Child Line representatives Pooja Kamble and Meenakshi Dhandade, along with school center head Nilakant Lohkare, visited the school. After confirming the harassment, they filed a report, which led to the registration of the case.
