After continuous heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of major dams of Vidarbha, water stock has improved in various dams to satisfactory level as compared to the previous year. The dams in Nagpur division, which had the lowest water stock in the State just a week ago, are now in a comfortable position, thanks to the constant heavy rains for three days till Wednesday. The 383 reservoirs of Nagpur Division now have 3193.60 Mcum of live
water stock which was 48.28 per cent of its total designed storage limit. Last year, on
this date, the Division had just 37.44 per cent of water stock in all its dams.
Bawanthadi and Gosikhurd dams of Bhandara district have more water stock as compare to last year’s storage. Gosikhurd dam has 39.78 per cent water stock today and last year it had just 29.48 per cent.
Asolamendha dam of Chandrapur district has 49.97 per cent water level and last year it had 25.76 per cent water stock. Similarly, all five dams of Gondia district including Dhapewada, Itiadoh, Kalisarar, Pujaritola, and Sirpur also have excess water stock as compared to last year.
Totladoh and Kamthi Khairy dams which are the major source of water supply to Nagpur city have more water level than last year.
Totladoh dam has 59.94 per cent water stock whereas it had 54.30 per cent water level in 2024. Kamthi Khairi has 86.80 per cent water level on Thursday and it had 79.26 per cent water stock last year. In the beginning of monsoon this year, weather was dry and rainfall low all over Nagpur Division.
This led to drastic depletion in water stick. However, the recent heavy rains have improved the case for the dams. It may be mentioned here that Chhattrapati Sambhaji Nagar has the highest 920 dams but the water stock in these reservoirs are lowest in the State with 42.53 per cent water stock. Amravati Division also have less water as compared to Nagpur with 46.97 per cent stock.
