Crime Branch and Khitola police have successfully solved the blind murder mystery of a man who was shot dead by unidentified person. The man was killed over business rivalry with his neighbour through a contract killer against Rs 50,000. The accused have been identified as Lallu alias Lalu Chakravarty (40), a resident of Ward No. 17, Sakri Mohalla, Khitola and contract killer Shailendra Pandey, a resident of Khitola.
The main accused Lalu Chakravarty has been arrested after the contract killer, who was already in jail in connection with other crime, confessed of killing Malkhe Chakravarty.
Additional SP (Rural) Suryakant Sharma disclosed this while addressing a press conference, on Tuesdya. He informed that a blind murder case that occurred on December 5, 2024, in Sakri Mohalla under Khitola Police Station. The case, registered under sections 103(1), 55, 61(2) of the BNS, involved the fatal shooting of 47-year-old Malkhe Chakravarty by an unknown killer.
Acting under the direction of Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhyay, a special team was formed led by Additional SP (City) Anand Kaladgi, Additional SP (Rural) Suryakant Sharma and SDOP Sihora Parul Sharma. The team, including officers from Khitola Police and Crime Branch, launched an intensive probe.
Through investigation and local surveillance, police found that the victim had longstanding business rivalry with his neighbour, Lallu alias Lalu Chakravarty. The rivalry included multiple altercations, including a knife attack on Lallu’s brother Chandan, for which a court case was ongoing.
Investigations revealed that Lallu Chakravarty planned Malkhe’s murder due to repeated disputes and business losses caused by the victim’s misconduct.
He conspired with Khitola resident Shailendra Pandey, who agreed to carry out the murder for Rs 50,000. On the night of the incident, after confirming Malkhe was alone in his shop, Lallu informed Shailendra, who shot and killed the victim and escaped via a back route.
On the basis of Lallu’s confession, the mobile phone and SIM used in the crime were recovered and he was formally arrested. Shailendra Pandey, the second accused, is currently lodged in Katni jail and will be questioned further with court permission.
