Traffic Branch notification seems to indicate ban on right turn at Morris College Square, forcing people to take a circuitous route of 2-3 kms for reaching Civil Lines or Tekdi Road.
Work on the proposed tunnel at Morris College Square is going to start for which Traffic Branch of Nagpur City Police has issued notice about closure of new DP road from metro station to Institute of Science for a period of four months. In the first phase, M/s YFC & BBG Projects is going to undertaking tunnelling work under the Freedom Park Metro Station towards Institute of Science road.
The road closure starts from July 30 and will continue till August 29 in first phase.
As per the application submitted by the company, about four months period is required to complete the tunnel work. This is part of Y-shaped tunnel that is planned at Morris College Square to ease the traffic congestion. The plan is to by-pass Morris College Square for traffic coming from Tekdi Road and
wanting to move towards Institute of Science. Another arm is meant for traffic coming from Institute of Science which can directly move from the tunnel onto Wardha Road towards Zero Mile Stone.
The traffic notification mentioned that traffic coming from Tekdi Road will have to take left turn at Morris College Square and thereafter right turn at Variety Square for moving towards Civil Lines from Maharajbagh Square. It further mentioned that the vehicles should take right turn at Akashwani Square to reach Samvidhan Square from where they can reach Morris College Square.
This is so as the concrete road construction is still incomplete in front of Central Telegraph Office (CTO).
Similarly, the traffic that used to take Institute of Science road should now take left turn at Maharajbagh Square and thereafter reach Variety Square and further reach Akashwani Square from there it should take right turn to reach Samvidhan Square and come to Morris College Square for reaching ahead.
The notification seems to indicate that right turn at Morris College Square is going to be banned all together to avoid congestion and ensure faster movement on the national highway stretch. Also a plain read of the notification also indicates possibility of ban on straight movement of vehicles from Zero Mile Stone till Samvidhan Square.
