Bhopal Police continued their relentless crackdown following the unearthing of the city’s largest drug racket. The Crime Branch has so far arrested 15 members of the gang led by high-profile drug trafficker Yasin Ahmed alias ‘Machhli’. Among those apprehended is Anshul Singh alias ‘Bhoori’, a close associate of Yasin, who was sent to jail on August 7 after his remand ended.
In a recent development, the Crime Branch on Friday arrested Shakir, another alleged trafficker. Shakir is accused of aiding his elder brother, drug trafficker Sanavvar, in evading arrest.
Police are actively searching for Sanavvar, who is considered another key member of the syndicate.
Interrogations of the arrested individuals have provided crucial insights into the network’s operations.
The gang’s mastermind, Yasin, allegedly recruited young individuals frequenting the city’s pubs and clubs. The primary targets were youths already addicted to alcohol or other substances. Initially, they were supplied with drugs for free. Once addicted, the price per dose escalated to a hefty Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000.
Covert Operations and International Links: The drug dealings were reportedly conducted using social media platforms like Telegram, employing specific code words for communication. Deliveries were restricted to only trusted clients.
Investigations reveal that over 50 individuals across the city worked for Yasin, managing everything from sourcing drugs from Delhi and Rajasthan to their distribution within Bhopal.
The case has also unveiled the involvement of foreign nationals. The Crime Branch recently apprehended Benchamat Moon, a Thai national, as part of its ‘Nashed Se Doori’ campaign. Furthermore, chats related to drug dealings with Nigerian youths were found on the mobile phones of Yasin and Anshul. Police had previously arrested one Nigerian national in connection with the case and are now reportedly detaining two more.
Manhunt Underway for Absconders:
Yasin Ahmed alias Machhli and Sanavvar, a trafficker from Aishbagh, remain at large. Police teams are conducting raids at their suspected hideouts.
Over 50 individuals have been questioned in connection with the case, and several others have been arrested based on compelling evidence. The police vow to continue their efforts until all members of the sprawling network are brought to justice.
