A significant milestone has been achieved in the medical history of Madhya Pradesh, as a successful cadaveric kidney transplant was performed for the first time at the Government Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College. This remarkable achievement marks the beginning of a new era in the State’s healthcare services. The recipient, a 42-year-old patient, received a new lease on life from a kidney donated by the cadaveric organ donor, late Satyendra Yadav. The patient has been discharged from the hospital in good health. Dean Dr Navneet Saxena, Director, Super Speciality Hospital, Dr Avdhesh Pratap Kushwaha, Superintendent, NSCBMCH, Dr Arvind Sharma and Superintendent, Super Speciality Hospital, Dr Jitendra Gupta, congratulated the entire transplant team for this commendable success.

They emphasised that this pioneering step would serve as a milestone in promoting a culture of organ donation and transplantation within the State. Nodal Officer Dr Phanindra Solanki played a crucial role in co-ordinating the effort, which also led to the successful transplantation of the donor’s heart in an institution in Ahmedabad and the liver in Bhopal. The kidney transplant itself was executed with the significant contributions of Dr Neeraj Jain, Dr Tushar Dhakate, and Dr Ratnesh.

Dr Jitin Bajaj and Dr Shailendra Ratre made sincere efforts in motivating the donor’s family towards organ donation. The Brain Dead Declaration Committee, including Dr Lalit Jain and Dr Namrata Chauhan, also provided valuable support. The surgical team, comprising Dr Nimish Rai, Dr Avinash, Dr Anurag, Dr Praveen and Dr Arvind, alongside the Anesthesia Department’s Dr Amit Jain, Dr Kamalraj, Dr Pradyumna, Dr Riti Seth and Dr Vivek Srivastava were also recognised for their important assistance. The co-operation of the nursing staff, transplant coordinators, and PG staff was exemplary in ensuring the success of the entire procedure.
