In a major step towards improving the city’s transport system, the Maharashtra State Government has officially approved the construction of a new Multi-Modal Transport Hub near Manas Square in Sitabuldi. This decision was announced by the Urban Development Department through a notification released on July 28.
The hub will be developed on land currently occupied by the Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC and MPSRTC) bus stands and the Nehru Model High School.
This change in land use has been approved under the Maharashtra Regional Planning and Town Planning Act, 1966, and was confirmed by the department to the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court.
The project is part of a joint proposal submitted by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Indian Railways, and MSRTC. Their aim is to transform Sitabuldi into a central point for transport facilities that will better serve the needs of a growing and modern city.
However, the project must meet a few important conditions before construction can begin. First, the Government needs to receive a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Defence Department, since some of the land involved belongs to them.
NOCs are also required from the State Transport Department and the Railway Department.
Additionally, the use of land currently occupied by the MPSRTC is subject to the outcome of a case still pending in the High Court. Until a decision is made, construction work on that portion cannot proceed. These conditions have been put in place to make sure the development happens smoothly and with the required permissions.
In its statement to the court, the Urban Development Department said that construction is expected to begin within three months. The High Court has directed the authorities concerned to carry out the project in a time-bound manner so that delays can be avoided.
Project to improve transport system
Once complete, the Multi-Modal Transport Hub is expected to improve how people travel in and around Nagpur. It will serve as a major connection point for different modes of transport including buses, trains, and other public systems. The project is likely to reduce traffic congestion and help people move between areas more easily.
This development will also benefit areas like Loha Pul, Manas Chowk, and Mominpura, where people and traders have been facing issues related to relocation and heavy traffic for many

years. The transport hub will help solve many of these long-standing problems.
The new hub is seen as a game-changer for Nagpur. It will not only modernise public transport but also boost the city’s infrastructure.
