THE Association for Industrial Development (AID), conceptualised by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, has advocated the Government of Maharashtra to speedily implement the Global Capability Centres (GCC) Policy. AID President Ashish Kale sent a letter to Adv Ashish Shelar, Minister for Information Technology, emphasising the policy’s importance for balanced regional growth, particularly benefiting Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities like Nagpur. AID President Kale recalled Minister Shelar’s announcement at the Advantage Vidarbha 2025 event that a task force has been formed to roll out a GCC Policy and to ensure that the policy not be limited to Tier-1 cities.

However, with states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh already implementing GCC-friendly policies, the delay could undermine Maharashtra’s competitiveness. Highlighting Vidarbha’s IT potential, especially through the MIHAN-SEZ, Kale proposed specific recommendations for Nagpur’s inclusion as a Tier-2 GCC hub. He suggested to include fast-track infrastructure support, integration of MIHAN-SEZ with the India BPO Promotion Scheme 2.0, and a dedicated Vidarbha GCC/BPO Incentive Scheme. The association requested the opportunity to present these proposals to the GCC Policy task force to ensure regional stakeholder representation.
