Congress corporators stage symbolic sit-in protest outside

Alleging complete collapse of sanitation services and stalled development works across the city, Congress corporators staged a symbolic sit-in protest outside the Mayor’s office on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, Leader of Opposition Amrish Mishra said all development works in the city, whether under Corporators funds or other heads have come to a standstill. The tussle between contractors and the ruling party in Jabalpur Municipal Corporation is proving dear to the city. He said the door-to-door garbage collection system remains in disorder.

He said the civic body collect taxes from residents, but it fails to provide them needed basic sanitation services. The Leader of Opposition further said that sanitation has completely collapsed in zones 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 14 and 15, which were earlier under a contractor whose services have now been terminated. He said despite the crisis, the Municipal Corporation has not made any alternative arrangements to date.

Targeting the Mayor, who represents the BJP, the Congress Corporators said instead of addressing real issues, the Mayor is playing with statistics. As the city’s first citizen, he has failed to take cognizance of people’s problems. During two-hour protest, corporators carried placards and raised slogans against the Mayor. They warned that if the situation does not improve within 24 hours, they will show black flags to the Chief Minister during his visit. If sanitation crisis and stalled projects are not resolved immediately, we will intensify agitation by burning effigies of the Mayor across all wards of the city, said Congress Corporators.
