Jahangirabad police personnel have successfully arrested two accused involved in the theft of e-rickshaws in the city. The arrests were made following CCTV surveillance and a tip-off from an informant. Two e-rickshaws, worth an estimated Rs 3 lakh, have been recovered from their possession. In recent weeks, police have been tightening action against criminal activities related to property theft and public safety. Acting under the directives of senior officers including DCP Zone-1 Shashank, Additional DCP Rashmi Agrawal Dubey, and ACP Bittu Sharma, Jahangirabad police launched an investigation into two back-to-back e-rickshaw thefts reported earlier this month.

The first complaint was lodged by one Syed Abdul Latif on August 12, who stated that his e-rickshaw (MP 04 RB 5540) was stolen after he parked it near Lal Parade Ground due to a breakdown. The second theft was reported on August 14 by Nandu Sharma, who parked his e-rickshaw (MP 04 ZZ 4038) near Neelam Park, only to find it missing the next morning. The police team scanned 40 to 50 CCTV cameras around the crime scenes.

Based on specific leads, on August 20, two suspects were caught red-handed while attempting to sell one of the stolen e-rickshaws in the CI Colony area. Upon interrogation, the accused revealed the location of the second stolen vehicle, which was found parked in Neelbad. The accused have been identified as Ramesh Rajput (22), a resident of Ahir Mohalla, and Ram Singh Yadav, resident of Karond area, both labourers by profession. Both have been arrested and presented in court. The investigation is going on.
