Bhopal is set to revolutionise athletic training in India with the establishment of the country’s first integrated Sports Science and High-Performance Centre at Sports City, Nathu Barkheda. With an investment of Rs 25 crore, this state-of-the-art facility will bring together cutting-edge technology and scientific research to support athletes in every dimension of performance, physical, mental, and nutritional.
The centre will house specialised labs and units, including a physiology lab for VO2 max testing and body composition analysis, a biomechanics lab equipped for motion capture, gait analysis, and force-plate testing, and a psychology unit focused on mental strength, stress, and anxiety management.
Nutrition and biochemistry support will be provided through blood marker testing and personalised diet planning. A recovery suite featuring hydrotherapy, cryotherapy, and physiotherapy will ensure optimal rehabilitation and injury prevention. What sets this centre apart is its holistic approach. Expert scientists, psychologists, nutritionists, physiotherapists and data analysts will create individualised profiles for each athlete, identifying weaknesses and tailoring training programs accordingly.
This fusion of disciplines will empower athletes to
reach peak performance in international competitions like the Olympics and Asian Games. Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, a passionate advocate for sports, envisions this centre as a catalyst for transforming Bhopal into a national hub of sports science. His belief that modern athletes require more than traditional coaching has driven this visionary project. Beyond elite athletes, the centre will benefit emerging talent across Madhya Pradesh, offering access to scientific training and high-performance support. By addressing technical gaps, psychological barriers, and physical limitations, this initiative aims to position India as a global sports powerhouse, starting with Bhopal at the forefront.
