After years of anticipation, Jabalpurians finally had their day of joy on Sunday when the Virangana Rani Durgavati Flyover-Madhya Pradesh’s longest and India’s first elevated corridor of its type welcomed its first full day open to the public. Thrown open on Saturday evening, the landmark transformed Sunday into a carnival of drives, selfies and celebrations, as citizens proudly embraced their city’s new identity. Families, youngsters and elders alike took their ‘first ride’ on the Rs 1200 crore project, turning the flyover into a festival-like zone. With Sunday being a holiday, people seized the moment, enjoying long drives, strolling on the stretch and soaking in the thrill of a landmark that has redefined the city’s skyline.

Selfies, reels and video calls filled the air as people captured the occasion to share with friends and relatives across the country. Youth groups were seen shooting videos, while families posed with children and grandparents against the backdrop of the iconic structure. “It felt like the city had been waiting just for this day,” said an onlooker, describing the euphoria. The overwhelming turnout also led to traffic snarls at Ranital, Baldeobagh and the elevated rotary, as the sheer rush of vehicles reflected the pride and enthusiasm of the locals. More than just a traffic solution, the flyover has placed Jabalpur back on the national map, both as a city of culture and now as home to an engineering marvel. For citizens, the inaugural ride on the Veerangana Rani Durgavati Flyover was not merely a commute, but the fulfillment of a long-cherished dream.
