The ongoing road construction work from Laxmi Bhavan Square to Dharampeth Traffic Park area has brought with it a series of civic problems that are directly impacting the day-to-day life of people living in the Ram Nagar area.
According to residents, all the construction debris from the site is being dumped right in front of Plot Number 96 to 99 near the NMC School in Ram Nagar. Large heaps of mud and waste material now occupy the roadside and even block the front space of houses. This careless dumping has not only reduced space for pedestrians and vehicles, but also created unhygienic conditions in the locality.
Adding to their problems, heavy machinery such as bulldozers, trucks, and other vehicles frequently move in and out of the site.
These machines are also parked on the roadside for long hours, right outside the residential stretch. This constant movement has led to noise pollution, disturbing the peace of the neighbourhood, particularly affecting schoolchildren, senior citizens, and families. Also, residents are concerned that the movement and parking of such heavy vehicles in a residential zone may cause serious accidents or major mishaps.
The debris and slush on the ground have created pools of dirty, stagnant water. Such water-logging has become a potential breeding ground for mosquitoes, raising the risk of vector-borne diseases.
The residents have also pointed out that many of the labourers working on the road project have now set up temporary shelters in the same locality, leading to additional inconvenience. Due to lack of civic responsibility, residents have demanded immediate action from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and the contractors to stop debris dumping in residential areas, ensure safe disposal, and regulate heavy vehicle movement.
