Upset over the Government’s decision to divide judicial and non-judicial responsibilities, Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars across Madhya Pradesh, including Jabalpur, took a firm stand on Wednesday by boycotting work and returning their official vehicles, on Wednesday. The officers have declared that they will refrain from all duties, except disaster management, until the decision is completely withdrawn. Madhya Pradesh Revenue Officers’ Association, District President, Shashank Dubey informed that acting on the call of the Madhya Pradesh Revenue Officers Association, Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars in multiple districts surrendered their official vehicles and distanced themselves from Government work. In Jabalpur, the officials gathered at the Collectorate office, parked their vehicles and handed over the keys to the inventory branch as a mark of protest.

Dubey added that the government has introduced a new policy that separates revenue officers into judicial and non-judicial categories. He emphasised that these officers were originally recruited for core revenue functions and not appointed as executive magistrates. The new division, he said, would take nearly 45% of officers away from their primary revenue responsibilities. Officials expressed concern that earlier, a single Tehsildar handled both revenue court functions and executive magistrate duties. Now, the government has assigned these roles to separate officers. Terming the move unjustified, the protesting officers announced that their strike would continue until the policy is completely revoked.
