Bhopal to become key rail manufacturing hub with Rs 1,800 crore BEML project

In a major infrastructure boost to Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has announced that a large-scale rail coach manufacturing project will be established near Bhopal. Set-up by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), the Rs 1,800 crore ‘Brahma Project’ will come up in Umaria village of Raisen district, over 60 hectares of land. The project is part of the Central Government’s Make in India mission and will manufacture coaches for Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat and Metro trains, marking a new era in Indian Railways. It is expected to directly and indirectly provide employment to more than 1,500 people, with benefits reaching students and skilled workers from Bhopal, Raisen, Sehore, and Vidisha districts. Dr Yadav emphasised the regional impact of the facility, stating that it aligns with the growing identity of Bhopal as a metropolitan hub.

He described it as a “visionary step under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership,” and called for widespread awareness about the project to ensure maximum local engagement. The foundation stone ceremony will take place on August 10 at Dussehra Maidan, Obedullaganj, in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as chief guest. Other key attendees include Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Defence Production Secretary Sanjeev Kumar, Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar, and BEML Chairman Shantanu Roy. Over 10,000 participants are expected. The event will feature a short film on the BEML project, a 3D walkthrough of the proposed plant, and model displays of upcoming manufacturing units. Officials have been directed to ensure smooth logistics, refreshments, and facilities for all attendees.
