In order to prevent sale of putrid food products during ensuing festive season, the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) is carrying out special drive in the city. Accordingly, the Health Department of JMC along with the Food Department, on Thursday conducted surprise inspections of hotels and eateries in the city. During the campaign, serious lapses in hygiene were found at well-known sweet shop Bikaner Sweets, located in Ganga Nagar, Garha. Chief Sanitary Inspector Santosh Mahore informed that the inspection team discovered extreme unhygienic conditions inside the shop’s production unit.
Dead insects were found in sweets and wastewater from the factory was being discharged directly into the drain. In view of these violations, a penalty of Rs 10,000 was imposed on the shop owner under joint action by the Municipal Corporation and the Food Department. Senior officials also warned the shop owner of more strict action if unhygienic condition is found in the establishment. Those conducted the inspection were Sanitary Inspector Ram Kori, Food Safety Officer Sarika Dixit, Supervisors Manohar, Santosh and others.
