JEEVA Radhakrishnan Pillai bagged twin titles in the men’s singles and doubles category of Yonex-Sunrise Nagpur District Badminton Tournament that concluded at Achievers Sports Club, near Podar International School, Besa on Sunday. In the men’s singles final, Pillai defeated Krishna Singh 21-18, 12-21, 21-16 in three games. In men’s doubles, Pillai and Sairaj Suhas Nayse got the better of Akshad Mukul Vitonde and Ashish Amarsingh Rajput 10-21, 24-22, 21-15, also in three games. Pillai would have won the third title of the day but retired in the second game against Priyanshu Pramod Dubey in the Under-19 boys singles final.

 

Dubey was leading 21-9, 11-5 when the rival quit. In the U-19 girls singles summit clash, Vaishnavi Santosh Manglekar defeated Fizza Shehbaz Akbani 21-18, 21-10 and in U-17 boys singles final, Aarav Aalap Palshikar got the better of Hridan Sandeep Singh 21-7, 21-15. In U-17 girls singles final, Vaishnavi had to fight hard to beat Sanvi Shailendra Ghate 14-21, 21-11, 21-16.
