Guinness Book of World Record lists the 5.64 km bridge as world’s longest metro double decker viaduct

Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) added another feather to its cap as its Kamptee Road route made it to Guinness Book of World Records. The fly-over is listed as world’s longest metro double decker viaduct. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was handed over the certificate issued by Guinness Book of World record during his recent visit to city. The ceremony was held at Ramgiri in presence of senior officials of Metro as well as National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). Swapnil Dangrikar of Guinness Book presented the certificate to Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director, Maha Metro, in presence of Chief Minister.

The metro viaduct stretches 5626.44 meters and constructed on single column makes it more unique among its many other notable features. Prior to Kamptee Road, Maha Metro had another record to it is name, the 3.14 km long metro viaduct on Wardha Road. It is similar in nature, a double decker viaduct constructed on single column. Part of the Orange Line, the route has three metro stations, Ujjwal Nagar, Jai Prakash Nagar and Chhatrapati Nagar. This viaduct is also listed in Guinness Book of World Records and the certificate was issued in year 2022. A major salient point of Kamptee Road viaduct is the unique transport arrangement at Gaddigodam where four-layered system is working seamlessly.

On the ground below is an RuB catering to road traffic, above it is the railway bridge catering to Delhi-bound trains ex-Nagpur and vice-versa, above that a railway overbridge (RoB) for road traffic and the top layer dedicated to metro services. At Gaddigodam to ensure that heavy load is effectively carried, about 1650 ton steel structure was used to launch the girder. The length of double decker viaduct is about 5.637 kms and same was constructed using Rib and Span method. Maha Metro officials including Rajiv Tyagi, Director, Projects; Anil Kokate, Director, Strategic Planning; along with NHAI officials including Rakesh Singh, Regional Officer; and C M Sinha, Project Director, were present at the function held in Ramgiri the other day.
