KATHAK dancer Devika Dixit from Durg enthralled spectators at the Chakradhar Samaroh 2025 with a performance that seamlessly blended tradition with contemporary expression.
Drawing on nearly 24 years of rigorous training, Devika’s recital showcased impeccable rhythm, expressive storytelling and nuanced choreography, leaving the audience spellbound. Her presentation skillfully merged classical Kathak techniques with modern sensibilities, appealing to both connoisseurs and general viewers. Each movement reflected a perfect harmony of heritage and innovation, underscoring her mastery developed over decades of dedicated practice.
Beginning her dance journey at the age of five under the guidance of Upasana Tiwari and Acharya Pandit Krishna Mohan Mishra, Devika went on to earn distinguished Kathak titles such as ‘Kovid’ and ‘Visharad’.
Her contributions to the classical art form have been recognised nationally, with accolades including the National Nritya Shiromani Award, Shreshtha Bharat Samman and the Gopikrishna National Award.
Her artistry has been showcased on prestigious platforms ranging from Delhi’s Kamani Auditorium to the Banaras Literature Festival, earning widespread acclaim for technical precision, clarity of rhythm and emotional depth. Apart from her artistic achievements, Devika has pursued academic excellence, completing a postgraduate degree in Urban Design from University College London and currently pursuing an MBA at IIM Raipur, reflecting a rare blend of creativity and scholastic rigor.
