NAGPUR athletes once again proved their dominance in running events by winning gold medals in the boys’ and girls’ categories in the Under-18 1,000-metre race in the 39th Maharashtra State Junior Athletics Championship at Shiv Chhatrapati Krida Nagri, Balewadi, Pune. In the boys’ category, Pranay Upase and in girls’ section, national medalist Janhvi Hirulkar, won the gold medals. In the Under-18 girls’ 1,000m race, Hindu Mulinchi Shala’s Janhvi won the yellow metal in two minutes 51.75 seconds. Kolhapur’s Sukanya Shivne won the silver in two minutes 53.93 seconds and Sangli’s Pranali Mandala won the bronze in 2.57.43 seconds.
 
In U-18 boys 1,000m, Khel Foundation’s Pranay Upase won the gold medal with a time of two minutes 32.33 seconds. The silver medal was won by Kolhapur’s Vedant Patil (2 minutes 32.70 seconds) and Ranveer Farkate (2 minutes 32.72 seconds) secured the bronze medal. In the Under-20 girls’ 400m hurdles, Pournima Uke of Krida Vikas Sanstha won bronze medal with a time of 1 minute 18.39 seconds. Shrawani Sangle of Nashik won the gold (1 minute 01.68 seconds) and Shrutika More of Kolhapur won the silver medal (1 minute 10.33 seconds). In the 100m hurdles, Sanyogita Misar of SB City Club won the silver medal with a time of 16.54 seconds.
 
The gold medal went to Thane district’s Aliza Mulla (14.42 seconds) while Sakshi Thatkar of Aurangabad (18.07 seconds) won the bronze medal. In the boys’ long jump, Aryan Jambhule of Khel Foundation won the bronze medal with a jump of 6.57 metres. The gold medal went to Bhushan Shinde of Nashik (7.16 metres) and the silver was won by Dhairyashil Dhere of Pune (6.78 metres). In the 400m race, city’s Kashish Bhagat, a student of Mahatma Gandhi English Medium High School and Junior College, Wanadongri, won the silver medal in 56.94 seconds. Nashik’s Bhumika Nehate clinched the gold in 56.61 seconds while Pune’s Mansi Bharekar won the bronze in 58.66 seconds. Another Nagpurian, Devanshu Chakole threw the discuss to 43.34 metres to settle for silver medal. Nashik’s Roshan Jadhav (43.92 metres) won the gold and Mumbai Suburban’s Tanish Desale won the bronze (42.90m).
